What’s involved in a full examination?

During the examination, your dentist will check all of your child’s existing teeth for decay, examine your child’s bite, and look for any potential problems with the gums, jaw, and oral tissues. The Dentist will also educate parents about oral health care basics for children and discuss dental developmental issues and answer any questions. Many dentists like to see children every 6 months to build up the child’s comfort and confidence level in visiting the dentist, to monitor the development of the teeth, and promptly treat any developing problems.

What is involved in a Dental Cleaning?

Upon arrival at the Auckland Family Dental Clinic, you will be met and checked in by our reception staff at the front desk. You will then be met by our dental assistant and escorted to our treatment room where you meet our Childrens Dentist. We will review your child’s medical history and check regarding any allergies, medical conditions and/or dental concerns related to your child. During the cleaning procedure, plaque and tartar deposits are gently removed and the teeth are polished leaving them feeling fresh and clean.

What happens during your first dental visit?

This visit gives your child an opportunity to meet the dentist in a non-threatening and friendly way. In your childs first appointment xrays and photographs may be taken to assess the problem. The first visit allows your child to meet the Dentist in a friendly and caring way. Treatment needs will then be discussed with the parents and treatment will be booked and completed at the following appointment once the child is comfortable with our Dentist. We aim to make a childs visit to the Dentist as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
